Using data from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, this research shows that adverse experiences across the life course shape dementia risk, with childhood abuse linked to a 74% higher risk and adult economic hardship linked to a 32% higher risk. The findings highlight that both the timing and type of adversity matter, with adult adversities showing a dose–response relationship, underscoring the importance of nuanced life-course approaches to understanding and preventing dementia.
